Supporting a Great Cause
Harcourts Gawler is proud to besupporting HeartKids SA, an organisation that exists to work towards improving the lives and futures of those affected by Childhood Heart Disease (CHD). Our long time staff member Kathy, her husband Rob and their family/friends have been touched personally by CHD and have travelled this journey themselves since their daughter Katelyn was born with a serious heart condition. We are pleased to be able to support Kathy and Rob Crowhurst as they work tirelessly towards raising funds and the awareness of this disease that affects 1 in 100 babies.
Rob and Kathy arrange two cycling events each year which are used to raise funds for HeartKids, offer emotional support to those who have lost loved ones, and also to help families that are working through the challenges of this disease. There is a single day event called 'Katelyn's Family Fun Day' in October that encourages riders and walkers to take on the trail from Bonython Park to the beach and return. The second event has been a two day tour, usually in March. Please see the information and outcome of this most recent event below. Feel free to donate to this amazing organisation that supports sick children and their families. Once again Harcourts Gawler were honoured to be able to be a sponsor of this latest edition of 'Katelyn's 2 day Tour' this year.
'Tour de Mintaro'
'Katelyn's 2 Day Tours' have been held annually since 2011 in memory of Katelyn who died in 2009 while waiting for a heart transplant. The event is a chance to honour all our precious 'Heart Angels' and support the families who continue to miss their loved ones.
The K2DT team is a wonderfully supportive 'family' that continues to grow. Over the weekend of 12th - 13th March, 31 keen cyclists rode 250km from Smithfield Memorial Park to Mintaro and back to Gawler. A bus load of vocal family and friends followed behind offering lots of support. So far this year's event has raised over $40,200 for HeartKids SA/NT which far exceeded all expectations. We are extremely grateful for the continued support of Julie & Dennis Thring and all at Harcourts Gawler.
The memories of Katelyn's 10-year journey on this earth continue to be the driving force for this event. Her faith, wisdom and determination inspired many and her amazing smile will never be forgotten.
